Number PDF pages in your browser

Page numbers make long PDFs easier to review, print and cite. They help readers confirm that a packet is complete, keep meeting notes in order and refer to a specific page during approvals or editing. This add page numbers to PDF tool opens your document locally, draws numbers on each page and downloads a new numbered copy. There is no upload step and no remote PDF processing, so private documents remain on your device. The numbering is added with pdf-lib as PDF text drawn on top of each page. The original page content is not rendered into images or recompressed. You can choose a common position, set the first number and choose a simple format.

Choosing a position and format

Bottom center works well for reports, manuals and school assignments because it stays visible without competing with headings. Corners are useful when the bottom center already contains a footer, form field or stamp. The center position is available for draft packets where a prominent page reference matters more than a polished layout. The formats cover the most common workflows: a plain number, a number with the total count, or the word Page followed by the number. If a document has a cover sheet that should not be counted, split or remove that page first, then add numbering to the remaining file with the desired start number.

Tips before sharing

Preview the downloaded PDF before sending it, especially if the original document already has footers or artwork near the edges. Increase the margin if numbers touch existing content, or move them to another corner. Keep the original PDF as a backup until you have checked the numbered copy in a PDF reader. Because everything runs locally, you can try different positions and formats as many times as needed without uploading the document or creating an account.
