Add a visible signature to a PDF

A visible signature is often enough for approvals, forms, receipts, permission slips and everyday paperwork where the recipient wants a signed copy rather than a certificate-based digital signature. This sign PDF tool lets you draw a signature with a mouse, trackpad, stylus or finger, or type your name and turn it into a script-style signature image. After you choose a PDF, the page previews appear in the browser. Select the page that needs the signature, drag the marker to the correct location and download a new PDF with the signature placed there. The PDF and signature data are never uploaded, which is important for forms that contain names, addresses, account details or private client information.

Draw, type and position carefully

pdfjs-dist renders page thumbnails so you can see where the signature will go, and pdf-lib embeds the signature image into a new copy of the PDF. Use draw mode when you want a handwritten look. Sign inside the white canvas and clear it if you need another attempt. Use type mode when a clean typed signature is acceptable; the generated image uses a cursive font when the browser has one available. The signature marker can be dragged around the selected page preview. The downloaded PDF maps that marker to the real page size, so keeping the marker inside the page gives the most predictable result.

Important limitations

This tool adds a visible signature image. It does not create a cryptographic digital signature, attach a certificate, lock the document, timestamp the file or verify the identity of the signer. If a government agency, bank or legal workflow requires a certified digital signature, use the method they specify. For routine documents, open the downloaded file before sending it and confirm that the signature is on the intended page, is large enough to read and does not cover important text, dates, checkboxes or totals.
