Sometimes you only need to add a line to a document: a date on a scanned form, a name next to a signature, a note on a printed contract or a label on a diagram. The Add Text to PDF tool lets you do that visually. Open a file, click the exact spot on the page preview where the text should appear, type it and adjust the font, size, colour and weight. Place as many text boxes as you like on as many pages as you need.
Move, edit and delete
Every text box can be dragged to a new position, edited through the text field and restyled with the font, size, colour and bold controls. Multi-line text is supported: press Enter in the text field and each line is positioned below the previous one. Select a box and press Delete, or use the Delete button, to remove it. The page navigation keeps your boxes per page, so you can flip back and forth before saving. The preview is drawn with the same sizes you will get in the output, which means what you position is what ends up in the file.
How the text is written
When you save, pdf-lib draws each line of text onto its page with the standard PDF fonts Helvetica, Times or Courier. The tool converts the position you clicked on the preview into PDF coordinates, where the origin is the bottom-left corner and the y-axis points up. It also handles pages with a rotation flag or a cropped visible area, rotating the text so it reads upright in viewers. The original pages are kept; the new text is added on top, so you can always return to your source file.
Standard fonts support Western European characters; other scripts are replaced by question marks. Because the entire process runs in your browser, the tool is safe for confidential paperwork. Password-protected files need to be unlocked first.
