Render PDF pages as images

Sometimes the easiest way to reuse content from a PDF is to turn each page into an image. You may need a preview for a website, a page snapshot for documentation, a scan image for another tool or a simple picture to share in a chat application. This extract images from PDF tool renders each full page as a PNG or JPG image in your browser and gives every page its own download button. The source file and rendered images stay on your device.

Page renders instead of raw embedded images

PDFs can contain images, text, vector artwork, masks and many other internal objects. Extracting the original raw embedded image objects reliably is complicated because the visible page may be built from several pieces. This tool intentionally creates page renders: one image that looks like the full PDF page. That approach is predictable, works with scanned and digital PDFs, and is what most users need when they want images from a document. pdfjs-dist loads the PDF from local memory, paints each page onto a canvas and encodes that canvas as an image file.

Choosing PNG or JPG

Choose PNG when sharp text, line art or lossless output matters. Choose JPG when file size is more important, especially for photo-heavy pages or scans. Higher scale values create more pixels and sharper output, but use more browser memory and take longer. For a large PDF, try 1x or 1.5x first, then rerender at 2x only if you need extra detail for final use. Review the downloads before deleting the original PDF, because these files are visual page images and not editable PDF pages with selectable text.

For long documents, download only the pages you actually need so your browser does not have to keep many large image files around. If the result will be used on a website, check both the pixel dimensions and the file size before publishing. If the result will be printed, open one image at full size and confirm that small text is still readable.
