Place multiple pages on each sheet

N-up layout reduces the number of sheets needed to review, print or share a document. Instead of one PDF page per sheet, two or four source pages are scaled and placed together on each output page. This N-up PDF tool supports simple 2-up and 4-up layouts directly in your browser. Choose a PDF, pick the layout and download a new file that groups consecutive pages onto fewer sheets. The tool uses pdf-lib to embed each original page into a new PDF sheet and does not upload your document.

Choosing 2-up or 4-up

Use 2-up when pages still need to be comfortably readable, such as contracts, reports, articles or notes with small text. Use 4-up when the source pages are large, visual or meant for quick overview, such as presentation slides, thumbnails, forms or worksheets. The final sheet size is based on the first page of the source PDF, with 2-up using a landscape sheet when the first page is portrait. Text, vector artwork and normal PDF page content are preserved as embedded PDF pages while being scaled to fit the cells.

Printing and review tips

N-up output is best for review and space saving, not for final forms that require original scale. Small fonts can become hard to read in 4-up mode, so make a quick test file before printing many pages. If the last sheet has fewer pages than the layout expects, the remaining cells are left blank. Keep the original PDF so you can return to full-size pages whenever a recipient needs the standard layout. Since all processing is local, you can create both 2-up and 4-up versions and compare them before sharing.

For slide decks and handouts, N-up can make review packets much easier to scan because related pages appear together. For detailed legal or financial documents, prefer 2-up or keep the original full-size version available. Always open the generated PDF in your normal reader and check page order, scale and readability before printing multiple copies.

Frequently asked questions

Does N-up processing upload my PDF?
No. The PDF is rearranged locally in your browser with pdf-lib.
What layouts are supported?
Choose 2-up to place two source pages on each sheet, or 4-up to place four source pages on each sheet.
Will page content stay selectable?
pdf-lib embeds source pages into new sheets, so normal PDF content is preserved rather than rasterized into images.
What happens if the page count is not even?
The last sheet is created with the remaining page or pages and any unused slots are left blank.
